The redevelopment of HMS Daedalus is a catalyst for positive change in the way that people travel around the surrounding area.

The overall development around Daedalus has helped secure funding for the delivery of the Stubbington Bypass. This has helped to redistribute traffic away from constraints in Fareham and supports a wider transport strategy at the site, including:

  • A job-led strategy that delivers commercial buildings first, increasing employment for local people who do not have to travel out of the area. This will reduce the impact on constrained and environmentally sensitive parts of the road network.
  • A transport strategy that maximises the potential for trips to be made by sustainable modes, by offering traffic free and low traffic/low speed environments linking to:
    – the extensive network of cycle routes that will be enhanced as part of the scheme to improve safety to provide a connection to the beach; and,
    – better bus infrastructure including funding for real time information, to make the experience of using the bus far better.

The proposals have been designed to meet the needs of a modern community, where people can work effectively from home when it is possible to do so while also delivering an attractive environment to support the on-site employees.

The wider strategy will be supported by:

  • A framework travel plan, which will promote, monitor and manage travel demands over coming years to ensure that future occupiers can make sustainable travel choices; and,
  • A parking management plan which will ensure that every property has access to an electric vehicle charging point and ensures that the scheme will not impact on parking in surrounding areas. The plan will also set out a strategy to discourage car ownership, instead offering car club vehicles (up to 3 cars).

A fresh start for HMS Daedalus

HMS Daedalus can once again be a crucial part of Lee-on-the-Solent, offering a link to its military history, and providing a world-class leisure destination celebrating 100 years of innovation and ingenuity.

New homes in historic buildings

The ambition is to create a complete community, with the provision of circa 270 new homes, and the refurbishment of the existing heritage buildings for a further 76 homes.

Support for the Hovercraft Museum

Daedalus Waterfront is actively supporting the museum, including funding a business plan to promote growth, leveraging our network to bring supporters, inputting creative ideas and providing financial support to help secure full funding.

Building for a Healthy Life

The development team’s vision includes a commitment to strong ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) principles. We plan to implement several initiatives to remain in step with, and where possible, exceed regulations.

New jobs and local economic value

The development will meet and grow local demand for small, medium and mid-sized industrial units, acting as a catalyst for the wider development.
